OUR JOURNEY

I'm Geraldine Mulhern, a fashion historian and artist with a vibrant journey from New York’s cultural scenes to Europe’s fashion capitals. With 35 years in the industry, from modeling to design, I now inspire through education in sunny Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. My story? A blend of creativity, curiosity, and an endless pursuit of learning.

History

Redefining the Way
We Move

Embarking on my journey in the vibrant Ridgewood, New Jersey, my fascination with the world and its myriad cultures was sparked by the eclectic mix of New York City's cultural events. As a young girl, the allure of Broadway, Lincoln Center, and the pulsating fashion shows opened my eyes to a realm of endless possibilities. My passion for fashion and culture was not just a fleeting interest; it became the compass that guided my educational and professional trajectory.

My thirst for knowledge and creativity led me across the Atlantic to the prestigious halls of Dior in Paris, under the tutelage of Marc Bohan, and to Florence to study with the legendary Emilio Pucci. These experiences were not merely academic pursuits; they were my initiation into the world of high fashion and design. By age 14, I had already graced the classic Barbizon School of Modeling, later weaving through the academic tapestries of the American Fashion College of Switzerland, FIT, and the Traphagan School of Fashion and Design.

Post-education, my career took a diverse path. From advising on Wall Street to being recognized in Who’s Who on Madison Avenue, and even contributing as a panel speaker for the NRMA, my experiences were as varied as they were enriching. My engagement with Children’s Aid and Member Services in New Jersey allowed me to leverage my skills for a greater cause, enhancing the lives of youth through improved housing and wardrobe enhancements.

Yet, after 35 years in the bustling fashion industry, a serendipitous opportunity to lecture as a fashion historian presented a new runway to explore. Now, as a permanent resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, my story took an unexpected yet heartwarming turn with the inception of "Teaching Togs."

The birth of "Teaching Togs" was inspired by a deeply personal story involving my nanny, Ramki, from Trinidad & Tobago. Learning of the struggles faced by her daughter back home, and the sacrifices Ramki made, touched my heart. It propelled me to use my expertise not just in fashion, but as a means to educate and uplift. From designing a unique shirt for Ramki's daughter, Ria, to witnessing the overwhelming positive response from her school community, "Teaching Togs" was born—a brand that blends educational content with playful design, making learning fun and fashionable.

What started as a small project has grown into a mission-driven brand, celebrated by major retailers and cherished by families. Beyond the clothes, I've extended my passion into hosting social clubs for kids, providing a space where creativity and education merge beautifully. My journey has been about more than just fashion; it's been a voyage of discovery, learning, and giving back, touching lives with every design and project I undertake.

This belief has been the guiding principle behind everything I do at "Teaching Togs." As I reflect on my journey, from the early days in New Jersey to my life now in Florida, it's clear that my story is one of passion transforming into purpose. It's a narrative I'm proud to share, hoping it inspires others to follow their curiosity, wherever it may lead.
